{"id":526,"date":"2012-03-18T13:47:55","date_gmt":"2012-03-18T13:47:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/paulgurney.com\/whats_new_blog\/?p=526"},"modified":"2012-03-18T13:56:07","modified_gmt":"2012-03-18T13:56:07","slug":"mac-os-x-removing-information-about-completed-print-jobs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/paulgurney.com\/whats_new_blog\/2012\/03\/mac-os-x-removing-information-about-completed-print-jobs\/","title":{"rendered":"Mac OS X: Removing information about completed print jobs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In Mac OS X v10.5 and later, it&#8217;s impossible to remove (clear) information about <a href=\"http:\/\/docs.info.apple.com\/article.html?path=Mac\/10.5\/en\/8811.html\">completed print jobs<\/a> without this tip.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Products Affected<\/strong>:\u00a0\u00a0 Mac OS Printing\/Fax (any version), Mac OS X 10.5, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.apple.com\/support\/snowleopard\">Mac OS X 10.6<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.apple.com\/support\/lion\">OS X Lion<\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you would like to clear the list of completed print jobs for any print queues (which will also clear any pending or active print jobs), Apple says to:<strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/docs.info.apple.com\/article.html?path=Mac\/10.5\/en\/8189.html\">Delete<\/a> the printer, then <a href=\"http:\/\/docs.info.apple.com\/article.html?path=Mac\/10.5\/en\/14004.html\">add it again<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Wow, that&#8217;s a bit of a hassle. Instead, you can <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Clear the entire print queue<\/strong><\/span> in OS X with a Terminal command. Launch Terminal and type:<\/p>\n<pre>cancel -a -<\/pre>\n<p><strong>Preventing future print jobs from appearing in the completed jobs list (advanced)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you would like to prevent all future print jobs from being included in the list of completed jobs, open Terminal and execute this command:<\/p>\n<pre>cupsctl PreserveJobHistory=No<\/pre>\n<p>You can later restore the default behavior of retaining a list of completed print jobs by\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/support.apple.com\/kb\/HT1341\">resetting<\/a>\u00a0the printing system, or by opening Terminal and entering the command:<\/p>\n<pre>cupsctl PreserveJobHistory=Yes<\/pre>\n<div>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Too bad Apple didn&#8217;t make the Delete button actually work in the Printer Manager!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In Mac OS X v10.5 and later, it&#8217;s impossible to remove (clear) information about completed print jobs without this tip.
